“You Need To Hear This” by Trevor Witt
I don’t want to hurt you –
But you need to hear the truth.
I’m afraid of how you’ll react.
Will you be able to bear my criticism?
Will I be able to bear your resentment?
How can I make you see
That you’re hurting yourself,
That you create one obstacle after another,
In your head, in your wallet, and in your relationships?
And it is all a function of fear.
All your distractions, all your insecurities,
They are all manifesting themselves from your fear.
But that is not what you want me to tell you; it’s not what you want to hear.
You want to hear that you are bombarded with difficulties –
I tell you that I understand, but
you must deal with them constructively,
rather than make excuses. and let the situation fester.
You want to hear that you are a victim of the poverty and psychological trauma –
I tell you that I know poverty and trauma, but
you must seek vindication of worth through your strength, intelligence, and talents,
rather than be a victim of your weaknesses, your folly, and your past.
You want to hear that there you are doing everything right,
That you are trying your best,
That there is nothing more you can do, BUT –
That’s not the truth.
And you need the truth.
You need to improve, to grow, to change.
But
You don’t need to hear it from me,
Though I can tell you all I want,
You must hear it from yourself.
